Fourthwall Media Announces AirCommand™ A New Way To Connect Mobile Devices And Set-Top Boxes

Cloud-Based Web Services Extend Cable’s EBIF Platform
Monday, February 28, 2011

Plano, TX, February 28, 2011 – Today FourthWall Media announced the availability of AirCommand, a set of cloud-based services connecting mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, to EBIF™-enabled set-top boxes.  AirCommand provides a rich set of services that allow the mobile device and set-top box to be linked and controlled, making a new breed of applications possible.  AirCommand accelerates an MSO’s ability to deliver new, integrated, cross-platform experiences to their subscribers.

AirCommand leverages FourthWall Media’s broad experience in providing EBIF technology and solutions to the cable industry.  AirCommand connects the TV footprint to the ever-expanding world of mobile devices opening the door to entirely new media consumption experiences.  The application possibilities include remote programming of DVRs; the ability to view and play on-demand titles; social media and messaging applications between mobile devices and set-top boxes; and cross-platform widgets, merchandising and commerce.  AirCommand supports a limitless array of applications that can now appear on television without an over-the-top device or Internet connection.

“Mobile devices open up a new frontier of innovative services, and the manner in which they are connected to cable set-top boxes will dictate how quickly operators can harness this new product category and associated new revenue,” said Tim Peters, FourthWall CEO.  “The significance of AirCommand is that it delivers common services, eliminating the need for custom development and integration for every mobile application, and allowing operators to better scale the business.  And because it’s an EBIF solution, it’s deployable today.”

AirCommand services are available to all EBIF-enabled set-top boxes most notably Motorola and Cisco.  Tablets, smart phones, computers, and even other set-top boxes communicate with AirCommand through standard web services shielding third-party developers from the intricacies of ITV applications.

“Critical to the success of AirCommand is FourthWall Media’s long track record in delivering secure, reliable, and scalable EBIF products to the cable industry,” said Ellen Dudar, FourthWall Chief Product Officer.  “As the market-leading provider of EBIF platform and application solutions, FourthWall Media is uniquely qualified to provide this multi-device communications service to operators.  We believe AirCommand is a game changer in this era of iTV and device proliferation.”

This week AirCommand is being demonstrated at the CableLabs® Winter Conference running on FourthWall’s EBIF Platform including its User Agents for both Motorola and Cisco set-top boxes.
